Herbicidal maniac

For the first time in years I’m gardening again.
I’ve only planted a few things: pink honeysuckle, hydrangeas, a butterfly bush a tall purple kind of phlox.
I’ve also bought some herbicide hoping to stem the tide against a plague of weeds.
Funnily I find myself looking more attentively for signs of brown leaves than fresh green.
